Morocco sends 234 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Gaza

The air bridge set up by Morocco between the kingdom and Egypt to ship humanitarian aid to the population of Gaza, ended on Thursday night. The operation, which was launched on January 7th under instructions of king Mohammed VI, made it possible to ship 234 tonnes of humanitarian aid destined for Gaza.
The aid, shipped through El Arish airport of Egypt, included 168.9 tonnes of foodstuffs, 54.8 tonnes of drugs and medical materials, and 10.5 tonnes of blankets.

The humanitarian aid reflects solidarity of the Moroccan people with the Palestinians in this painful ordeal.

King Mohammed VI has ordered the opening of a special "Palestine relief account" at Morocco's Central Bank "Bank Al-Maghreb" to enable citizens to make donations to assist the Palestinian people.

The kingdom, which "strongly" denounced the Israeli military operations against Gaza and escalation of violence, has also voiced readiness to receive 200 Palestinian injured for medical care and treatment. The first group had arrived last week in Morocco.

A number of officials of the Palestinian Red Crescent hailed the king’s initiative to send humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and receive 200 injured.

Mustapha Mohamed, in charge of public relations of the foundation of victims of the Intifada, underlined that the Palestinian people laud this initiative, adding that “it is a great honor that such an initiative was taken by King Mohammed VI, chairman of Al Quds Committee.”

For her part, director of public relations of the Palestinian Red Crescent, May Arif, said the residents of Gaza were delighted at the Royal initiative, insisting that the Moroccan people have sincere feelings toward the brotherly Palestinian people.

Khalid Attia, in charge of crossing points at the Palestinian embassy in Cairo, extended thanks and gratitude of the Palestinian people to king Mohammed VI for this initiative, stressing that the monarch has always showed positions recognized across the world toward the Palestinian people.
